BRE welcomes UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking deadline extension

Enabling manufacturers to demonstrate that their products meet standards, UKCA marking replaced the CE labelling that was used when the UK was part of the EU.

BRE has welcomed the extension to the UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking deadline, announced by government on 24 August 2021. The transition period to obtain UKCA marking to demonstrate compliance with product regulations has been extended until 30th June 2025.

UKCA marking enables manufacturers to demonstrate that their products have met UK product standards and will replace the CE labelling that was used during the UK’s membership of the European Union.

David Gall, Certification Lead at BRE, said “BRE welcomes the government’s decision to extend the deadline for UKCA marking. We know from listening to our customers that they needed more time to meet the UKCA deadline, especially in arranging any testing needed by UK bodies.

This is a positive step for the health of UK manufacturing and our ability to harness the expertise in product development and export it around the world”.

CE marked goods can continue to be placed on the market in Great Britain (GB) until the end of 2022, including goods assessed by an EU ‘notified body’. However, businesses must prepare for the end of CE recognition in GB and affix the UKCA mark from 30th June 2025.

BRE provides independent product testing and certification for a wide range of fire, security and environmental products and services, management processes and other products and systems.
