Winners included Bloomberg UK for the regional Western Europe award, while Unilever Food Innovation Centre got the People’s Prize Buildings for Tomorrow.

Celebrating the Winners of BREEAM Awards 2019

Bloomberg UK scoops regional award – Western Europe.

BRE has announced the winners of its BREEAM Awards 2019 at a gala event held last night at the London Hilton Bankside Hotel.

An annual fixture for built environment professionals, the awards recognise excellence in the sustainable building arena. This year’s gala event was hosted by one of the BBC’s leading correspondents, David Shukman.

The winners include the most innovatively sustainable BREEAM rated buildings of the previous 12 months from the UK and countries as far afield and diverse as Cuba, Romania and Norway and for the first ever year, China and Kazakhstan. The awards also recognise the high achievements of BREEAM assessors and socially responsible investment through a continuing partnership with GRESB which is now in its second year.

The BREEAM awards cover a variety of sectors including residential, retail, industrial, education and healthcare as well as project types such as new build, refurbishment and in-use.

Awards were also given to a variety of industry bodies, including John Robertson Architects (Professional Champions Awards – Architects), Stanton Consulting and Sweco (joint winners of Professional Champions Awards, M&E Consultant). Immobiliaria Colonial and SP Fastigheter AB were awarded the GRESB/BREEAM Award for Responsible Investment Large Portfolio and Small Portfolio respectively.

Additionally, the GRESB/BREEAM Award for Individual Leadership was given to Jane Wakiwaka, Sustainability Manager, The Crown Estate.

The Assessor Organisation of the Year was awarded to Buildings for Tomorrow Ltd and the assessors of the year are Babatunde Agoro (Hoare Lea LLP), David Partington (Sweco UK) and Lizette van Zuilen (C2N B.V.)

The coveted and highly competitive People’s Prize – the Your BREEAM Award – which gives members of the public the chance to vote for a BREEAM building they love, was given to the Unilever Food Innovation Centre.

The awards mark another successful year for BREEAM, with over 500,000 buildings certified under the scheme to date in over 80 countries. Since its launch in 1990, the assessment system has made an enormously positive contribution to shaping a better built environment for all.
